Curb Appeal !
This 1950’s cape looked sad and tired from
the street, despite a complete renovation going on inside. The homeowner
hired a painter to change the aluminum siding to a crisp grey. Added
black shutters made the white trim really stand out. The roof needed
to be replaced – architectural tiles applied by a local roofer
complement the new house color. Now the outside is as clean and
inviting as the renovated interior, for about $2750, including labor
and materials. |

Chef’s Delight!
It doesn’t take tens of thousands of dollars
to renovate a kitchen. This modest home had a 1940’s kitchen,
complete with cheap, dark and moldy cabinets, chipped countertops,
ugly linoleum and ancient light fixtures. The homeowners created
a light and airy space using stock cabinetry from a local home center,
with the help of a handy man, who patched and smoothed the walls,
installed the cabinets, laid a new ceramic tile floor, installed
new appliances and light fixtures, and painted the walls a light-enhancing
pale honey color. A local craftsman created new Wilsonart countertops,
insuring a perfect fit and finish. The result? A kitchen the homeowners
want to be in, and a lot less take-out! Total cost of this renovation?
$5,950, including all labor and materials. Wow!

Life After Paneling
A demolition team removed the dark paneling that
covered the walls of this bedroom, as well as the decades-old carpet.
A handyman patched and sanded the walls, cut new window trim, applied
neutral paint to walls and trim. Neutral carpet completed the picture
- a fresh new bedroom!

From Dated to Timeless
The upstairs bath in this homeowners 1940’s
cape had already undergone a renovation…in the 1970’s!
Remember “harvest gold”? The fiberglass shower surround
– complete with built in soap holders for a family of 6 –
was as ugly as it was weird! Demolition was accomplished by the
homeowners, and a local professional helped insert a new tub, then
replaced the water-damaged wall board with the proper backing, then
added gleaming white tile from a home center. This bath is only
a day away from fabulous!
